OwnWorks ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and how we use it.

1. Information We Collect

Profile data

Name, business name, service areas, equipment, vehicle types, categories of work, photos/logos, public bio, and rating history. Contractors choose whether their profile is public.

Account data

Email address, password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), role (contractor or company), and account preferences.

Application data

Records of opportunities you post, opportunities you express interest in, messages between matched parties, and onboarding status.

Billing data

For paid plans, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We store only plan tier, billing status, invoice references, and trial/PAYG state. We never store full card numbers.

2. Sensitive Documents

In the current MVP, OwnWorks does not store sensitive contractor documents such as driver licenses, insurance certificates, DOT compliance documents, or background checks. Companies and contractors must exchange and verify these documents directly outside the Platform.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the marketplace and match contractors with opportunities.
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset, trial ending, Express Interest notifications).
  • To protect the integrity of the Platform and prevent abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We use cookies and browser storage for authentication and session management. See our Cookie Policy for details.

5. Email Notifications

We send transactional notifications (account verification, billing alerts, Express Interest alerts) that are essential to the service. You can manage non-essential notification preferences from your Account Settings.

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Service providers (hosting, email delivery, payments) under contract.
  • The other party in a matched opportunity (limited to what your profile or post publicly displays).
  • Authorities when legally required.

7. Public Profile Data

Information you mark as public (e.g., your contractor profile or company page) is visible to anyone on the Platform. Do not include private details you do not want public. Sensitive fields such as contact email, phone number, and DOT/MC numbers are not exposed to anonymous visitors.

8. Data Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you request deletion, we soft-delete personal identifiers but may retain application history, billing records, and safety/marketplace records as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

9. Security

We use industry standard encryption in transit and Row-Level Security on our backend. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and notify us of any suspected compromise.

10. Your Rights
